MATERIAL & PRINTING METHOD

UV Screen Printing on Glass and UV-Coated Surfaces

What UV ink is suitable for screen printing on glass?
Evaluate a UV screen-printing ink whose documented scope includes glass, then confirm the exact substrate, surface condition, cleanliness, curing setup, required adhesion and end-use resistance on the actual part.
What UV ink can be used on UV-coated surfaces?
Start with an ink documented for compatible UV-coated surfaces. Finished coating systems can differ, so coating compatibility, surface cleanliness, UV curing and the required adhesion and resistance tests must be checked on the production surface.
What should be checked before selecting UV ink for glass decoration?
Check the exact glass or coated surface, surface condition, cleanliness, screen-printing process, UV-curing setup, required adhesion, required resistance and actual production conditions.
Can one UV ink be used on glass, coated surfaces and selected plastics?
One ink may cover more than one confirmed material group, but compatibility cannot be assumed across every substrate or coating. Hongsheng H1012UV is one UV-curing screen-printing system that can be evaluated for confirmed compatible glass, UV-coated surfaces and selected plastic substrates.

ADHESION DIAGNOSIS

Common Adhesion Problems on Glass & Coated Surfaces

Why does UV ink peel off glass after curing?
Peeling can relate to surface contamination, surface condition, ink and substrate compatibility, coating compatibility, incomplete curing or printing conditions. Check each factor on the actual part rather than assuming one single cause.
Why does the same UV ink behave differently on different coated surfaces?
Different finished coating systems may respond differently to the same ink and curing process. Confirm compatibility and performance on the actual coated part before production.
Why can a print look good but fail a cross-cut or tape adhesion test?
Visual appearance alone does not confirm adhesion performance. Check substrate compatibility, surface condition, complete curing and the actual cross-cut or tape test required for the application.
Why can adhesion vary between different glass or coated-surface production batches?
Results can vary with the actual substrate, surface condition, contamination, coating variation, curing conditions and process variation. Use representative production parts for testing.

CURING DIAGNOSIS

UV Curing Troubleshooting for Glass Printing

Why is UV ink still tacky after curing?
Check UV energy, lamp condition, film thickness, ink color, equipment and production speed. H1012UV does not surface dry, so complete UV curing is required before adhesion or resistance testing.
Why do dark colors need different curing conditions?
Color and opacity can affect the energy needed for complete cure. The documented H1012UV reference is approximately 600–1,200 mJ/cm²; lighter or clear colors may cure near the lower end, while darker colors may require higher energy.
Why can UV ink appear cured but later fail resistance testing?
A dry-looking surface does not confirm complete cure or final resistance. Verify the actual UV dose, film thickness and production conditions, then perform the required resistance test after complete curing.
Why can curing performance change during production?
Curing can change with color, film thickness, UV source output, equipment and production conditions. Treat the documented energy range as a process reference and validate the actual line.

The approximately 600–1,200 mJ/cm² range is a documented H1012UV reference, not a universal guaranteed setting.

PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION

Meeting Adhesion & Resistance Requirements

What should be checked if UV ink fails a tape adhesion test on glass?
Confirm the exact glass or coating, surface cleanliness and condition, ink compatibility, complete curing and the specified test method. A failure should be diagnosed against the actual part and process.
What should be confirmed when alcohol resistance is required?
Confirm the required load, solvent, number of double rubs, acceptance criteria and test timing. Compare the customer requirement with the documented H1012UV reference under representative production conditions.
What should be considered when abrasion resistance is important?
Confirm the abrasive material, load, number of double rubs, acceptance criteria, ink-film thickness and curing condition. Documented reference performance does not guarantee the same result on every substrate.
What tests should be confirmed before mass production?
Confirm the required adhesion, alcohol, abrasion, chemical or immersion tests for the actual end use, then run them on representative production parts after complete curing.

PRODUCT SELECTION

How to Choose UV Ink for Glass & Coated Surfaces

What should buyers compare when choosing UV screen printing ink for glass?
Compare substrate and coating compatibility, adhesion, UV-curing requirements, required resistance, gloss or appearance, production setup, actual end use and available technical support.
What UV ink should be considered when high gloss and resistance performance are required?
First confirm the exact surface, finish requirement, curing capability and required adhesion and resistance tests. H1012UV can be evaluated where its documented glass, UV-coated surface or selected compatible plastic scope matches those conditions.
How should buyers evaluate a cost-effective UV ink for glass printing?
Consider total printing cost through curing efficiency, ink consumption, rejection rate, adhesion consistency, resistance performance, production stability and technical support. Hongsheng can review the actual application before mapping it to H1012UV or another suitable system.

DIAGNOSTIC PATH

Adhesion & UV Printing Troubleshooting

  1. 1
    Identify the exact substrate

Confirm whether the part is glass, a UV-coated surface or a selected compatible plastic.

  2. 2
    Check surface cleanliness and condition

Inspect the actual part for contamination and changes in surface condition.

  3. 3
    Confirm coating compatibility

Where a coating is present, evaluate the finished coating system on the actual part.

  4. 4
    Verify UV curing

Check UV energy, lamp condition, color, film thickness, equipment and production conditions.

  5. 5
    Evaluate adhesion after complete curing

Use the required cross-cut, tape or other approved adhesion method.

  6. 6
    Run the required resistance tests

Confirm the actual alcohol, abrasion, chemical or immersion requirements for the end use.

  7. 7
    Select the appropriate Hongsheng system

Use H1012UV only when the confirmed substrate, process and performance scope matches; otherwise request evaluation of another suitable system.

APPLICATION BOUNDARIES

When H1012UV May Not Be the Right Ink

H1012UV is specified for screen printing and should not automatically be recommended for pad printing. Not every glass or coated surface is automatically compatible, and unknown coatings should be evaluated on the actual finished part.

Difficult-to-adhere materials outside the confirmed H1012UV scope, or applications outside its documented curing and resistance conditions, require technical evaluation for another suitable Hongsheng ink system.
