ONE-COMPONENT METAL INK

One-Component Air-Drying Ink for Metal & Coated Metal

What one-component ink can be evaluated for metal printing?
Start with the exact metal, coating or plating, surface condition, printing method, drying capability, adhesion requirement and resistance tests. Hongsheng H665 is a single-component air-drying system for its confirmed metal and coated-metal scope.
What ink is suitable for screen and pad printing on metal?
Select an ink documented for the intended printing method and actual finished surface. H665 supports screen printing and pad printing on confirmed compatible metal, plated and coated surfaces, subject to production trials.
What does a single-component metal ink simplify?
A single-component system supports a direct preparation workflow when used according to its documented stirring, viscosity adjustment, printing and drying process. Final suitability still depends on the substrate and required performance.
What should be checked before printing on metal or coated metal?
Confirm the exact substrate, coating or plating, surface cleanliness, printing method, ink deposit, drying conditions, adhesion target and resistance requirements on representative finished parts.
When should an air-drying metal ink be considered?
It may be evaluated when the confirmed substrate fits, screen or pad printing is used, standard production does not require baking, and the documented adhesion and resistance scope matches the customer tests.

ADHESION DIAGNOSIS

Common Adhesion Problems on Metal & Coated Metal

Why does ink peel off metal after printing?
Possible factors include the exact metal, coating or plating, oil or other contamination, ink-to-surface compatibility, incomplete drying, ink-film condition and the required adhesion method. Diagnose the full process rather than assuming one cause.
Why can ink peel from coated or plated metal even when the print looks good?
Visual appearance does not verify adhesion. The exact finish, contamination, drying process and customer adhesion test must be checked on the finished part.
Why can the same ink work on one metal part but fail on another?
Iron, copper, aluminum alloy, galvanized steel, stainless steel, electroplated surfaces and coated surfaces can behave differently. Surface condition and production history also vary, so approval should use representative parts.
Why can adhesion vary between production batches?
Check substrate and finish consistency, oil and residue removal, ink preparation, print deposit, temperature, ventilation, drying time and test timing. Control these variables before changing the ink system.

SURFACE CONDITION

Surface Preparation & Cleanliness for Metal Printing

Why should metal be cleaned before printing?
Dust, oil, machining fluid and protective residue can interfere with ink-to-surface contact. The H665 process requires contaminants to be removed before printing.
Why can machining oil reduce adhesion?
Oil can remain on machinery housings and fabricated parts and form a barrier between the ink and metal. Cleaning effectiveness should be confirmed on the actual production surface.
Does every metal surface behave the same?
No. Metal type, plating, coating, baked finish and other surface conditions can change compatibility and adhesion. Treat each finished surface as a distinct application.
Should coated or plated metal be tested separately?
Yes. Confirm compatibility and performance on the actual coated or plated part using the intended cleaning, printing, drying and test process.

DRYING DIAGNOSIS

Air-Drying Troubleshooting

Why is the ink still soft after printing?
Review ink-film thickness, substrate temperature, ambient temperature, ventilation, thinner selection and elapsed drying time. H665 drying time varies with the substrate, film thickness, temperature and ventilation.
Why can adhesion improve after complete drying?
Performance testing before the ink film has completely dried may not represent the documented reference condition. Allow the intended drying schedule to finish before final testing.
Why can a print look acceptable initially but later fail resistance testing?
Appearance alone does not confirm complete drying or final resistance. Check the drying schedule, actual substrate and finish, ink deposit and specified test condition.
What drying information should buyers confirm?
Record the drying method, temperature where hot air is used, duration, ventilation, substrate temperature, ink-film thickness and the time allowed before testing. The H665 reference includes hot-air surface drying at 40–60°C and full air drying for 24 hours.

H665 is an air-drying ink and does not require baking for standard applications. The documented hot-air surface-drying and full-air-drying references should be validated under actual production conditions.

PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION

Meeting Adhesion & Resistance Requirements

What should be checked if metal ink fails a tape adhesion test?
Confirm the exact surface, cleanliness, compatibility, ink deposit, complete drying and test timing, then repeat the required cross-cut and tape method on a representative finished part.
How should adhesion on coated or plated metal be verified?
Use the customer-required method after the complete production drying process. Compare the result with H665's documented reference and the customer's acceptance criteria.
What should be confirmed when alcohol or solvent resistance is required?
Define the liquid, load, rubbing method, number of cycles, drying state and acceptance criteria. The H665 TDS documents no visible change under its alcohol and solvent rubbing reference without specifying universal customer conditions.
What should be checked when abrasion or chemical resistance is important?
Confirm the abrasive or chemical, load or concentration where relevant, exposure method, duration, drying state and acceptance criteria before production.
What should be validated before mass production?
Follow the sequence: actual finished surface, controlled cleaning and printing, complete drying, required adhesion test, required resistance tests and customer approval.

PROCESS SELECTION

When Should Buyers Consider a One-Component Air-Drying Metal Ink?

When is a single-component metal ink suitable for evaluation?
Consider it when the substrate is within the confirmed metal scope, screen or pad printing is used, an air-drying workflow fits production, and the documented adhesion and resistance areas align with the required tests.
What workflow does H665 use?
H665 is stirred, adjusted as needed with the recommended thinner for the printing conditions, printed, and allowed to dry completely before performance testing. Standard applications do not require baking.
Does process simplicity remove the need for testing?
No. The exact metal, coating or plating, cleanliness, drying schedule and customer test requirements still determine whether the system is suitable.
What should buyers compare before selecting H665?
Compare the actual substrate and finish, screen or pad printing setup, air-drying capability, adhesion and resistance requirements, production workflow and technical support.

APPLICATION BOUNDARIES

When H665 May Not Be the Right Ink

H665 is not automatically suitable for every metal, coating or plating. Unknown finishes, contamination and unusually demanding adhesion or resistance requirements require actual-part testing. Applications that require a different curing process or performance scope should be evaluated separately.

H665 is a single-component air-drying metal ink for its confirmed surfaces. It should not be substituted automatically for a dedicated high-temperature baking system or a system intended for unusual heat or weather exposure. Applications outside its documented substrate, printing, drying or performance scope require another Hongsheng evaluation.
